The mustang fell through, as they wouldn't give me what i needed for the XT, so I went across the street to the Ford Dealership. Decided to give the focus ST with recaros a chance. Good news everyone! I fit.

The ST is a fun car! Enjoy it, and congratulations!

Just noticed that you even got the nice headlights – I had somehow thought these were weren't even an option in your market.
BTW: What did you use to take the pictures? Seems awfully wide-angle and still very nice in the close-ups.

Nice! I must have been gone for far too long, you've gone from FR-S to XT to ST now? Or am I missing something in the middle?

I am not sure If they're standard or optional here, I know my package was ST3 though so almost every block was checked.
I shoot with a can 5D MKII and a 24-70mm 2.8f L, there are a few more pictures on my site that I took with a samyung 14mm but the 24-70 is my work horse

Forgot about that, haha changing now

No that is it, there was the WRX before the FRS though... I need to stop being such a car whore

Sounds to me like you're more of an alphabet whore. What do you have against an actual name?

No further questions then, your Honour. Why do so many opponauts have L glass for their cameras? I clearly need to work on my moneys. ;)

This is refreshing. Someone who cares to purchase a fun car.. The lady across the street from me just got a Prius over the weekend... After looking at that dull box of boring I needed something refreshing.

Congrats man!

Yay, new car! Congratulations. I'd really like to test-drive one of these.

Seriously man, you silly. You didn't trust the 2.5L turbo subaru motor so why did you get the forester XT?
Looking back at your history, you should have gotten a used Legacy GT Spec B, gotten some drop in pistons and a stage 2 tune and been happy with it.
But the Focust ST will surely be fun for you over the next 6 months until you buy a new car :-P

As much as I like Mustangs, I am a big fan of the ST. And I haven't seen many red ones. Good choice if for no other reason than "Because Recaro".
![]() 08/05/2013 at 11:44 |

I'm confused. Seems like this and the mustang are opposites. Was it a v6?
![]() 08/05/2013 at 12:40 |

See what Victorious Secret said... easily confused

I had the 14 with a 2.0 Turbo, and it only came in a CVT so that killed it after a short time.
The LGTB has always been on my radar, but I wanted something with a factory warranty, hell I even looked for a new model GT but no dice.
Funny you say that, there is already a pool at work on how long this will last.

Thank you much!changed it to something a little more appropriate

The Recaros had me drooling, the plan now is to keep this one and when I become a Warrant Officer buy myself a Stang with the track package.
Thanks man, not usually a fan of red but it works in this case (and by works I mean draws unwanted attention)

No it was the 5.0, it was the negotiations that weren't working, to be honest I just wanted something autocrossable and this fits the bill (as did the Mustang with Brembos) but this ended up being attainable
![]() 08/05/2013 at 12:49 |

Thank you! And it is a fun little car, I had my dull 14 Forester XT and couldn't live with how boring it was. Needed something I could race again

I had a 2007 Focus ST and I'm amazed at how far they have come.
If you make it to DC I'll point you towards the local autoX clubs.

To be honest Ford was never on my radar until 2011 when the 5.0 cameback, now i think they have one of the best selections of fun cars, hell if they had a roadster they would probably dominate
Sounds good! It's been a few years since I've been in DC, mostly because I hate the Beltway

Oooh yeah, I forgot the '14's had the new 2.0L tubro. Yes, CVT kills that :-(
You remind me of a good friend of mine who switches cars every few months. A good strategy might be to get a comfortable beater as a daily driver and get something you can go hog crazy with as the sportscar.
I have a '00 Outback wagon as a DD and have my 05 WRX wagon as my sports car. I've gone through 2 engines but have still spent less money modding and rebuilding the engines in the WRX than I would have with a stock anything I believe.
Heck, perhaps you should look into the Factory Five 818
https://www.factoryfive.com/kits/project-8…
Wookie tested (one of the developers is 6'8'' tall), subaru powered Mid-engined RWD monster killer. you could get one of these on the road for 20 grand and literally outrun just about every car on the road.

Haha I hate those new CVT transmissions. I will always make a point of staying away from them. My first and current car is a 2004 Pilot and i like it, it does its job, runs very well, given my family and I 10 years of good service and i find it fun, no intention of trading it any time soon. Hope that Focus can provide you with similar service for awhile!
![]() 08/05/2013 at 13:20 |

I want an 818 something fierce, maybe after my next deployment I'll get one!
My issue with a project car is that I live in the Barracks and don't really have access to a garage, or at least one I can leave the car in while I do builds/ rebuilds. I was considering a sw20 MR2 with that in mind, but again the lack of wrenching space made it hard.
![]() 08/05/2013 at 13:21 |

Yeah CVTs aren't exactly fun machines. And you all have gotten your money out of that Pilot, awesome!
![]() 08/05/2013 at 13:28 |
|
Doh! That sucks man but perhaps you can find one that someone has already built. Give it a year or two for them to ramp up production and there will be pre-built 818 packages available for sure.
The ST shall serve you well though, great car.
![]() 08/05/2013 at 13:40 |

There is a company that sells turnkey 818s in grassroots motorsports magazine
![]() 08/05/2013 at 13:44 |
|
Well, they WILL once they get orders in. As of right now, FFR is still delivering the first batch of pre-orders as far as I know.
However, it's good to know they already have ads out.
Where are you based BTW? I'm in NC. It'd be crazy if you were at Bragg or something.

Ahhh. That explains it. I picked up a used 5.0 last year after seriously debating the BRZ/FRS and STI. Threw some new rubber on and it has been a blast at track days and autocross. The stock seats are certainly lacking in the lumbar department though. Buddy has the brembo/recarro package. Huge difference but $$$

Yeah.. it feels like its been here forever lol.. I personally dont mind haha.
